What's not to like here? September 6, 2010 Old Guy (Lost) Great price for a multifunctional product from a great company. Great, and I mean GREAT, deal!!!
Great value August 31, 2010 Bryce C. Wilson Whenever I see a good price for a product that Nikon sells for a good deal more I am hesitant however; the Vivitar name lead me to buy this product. It works well as a radio remote and a corded release. I used it on a Nikon D700 to take a series of sunset photos and at 22 feet it worked fine. Easy set up, good value, a great deal.
A handy tool for tripod shooting August 30, 2010 R. A. PFARRER This remote works as it is advertised to do. The receiver is light and is able to be put on your flash shoe but it is also made of plastic so it can be a bit rough going in. The transmitter is also light weight and compact unless you pull out the antenna. It works fairly well from about 30 feet away without the antenna pulled out but much farther than that you will want to extend the antenna. This really only comes into play when you have a large group that you need to photograph and you are part of the shot, but some careful planning and placement will help you hide the antenna. Once you get it set up the first time you should be able to "plug and play" and it's an easy thing to throw into your camera bag or pocket and carry with you.
Vivitar wireless shutter release for Nikon D300 does not work. August 23, 2010 Amar Amaresan (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts United States) I am very disappointed that the remote shutter release is not working. I can use the wired receiver to shoot but with the transmitter, I am not able to remotely control the shutter. It is very disappointing and very frustrating. A product purchased at Amazon from a reputed manufacturer like Vivitar to not work as expected is a big disgrace.
The minuscule instruction manual is not a big help either.
So, what do I do?
Just the ticket July 30, 2010 V. V. Roekel (midwest) Works great with my D300. Took me a few minutes to figure out where to plug in the cord (the front of the camera under a "hidden" cap). The receiver worked instantly. (Yes, it is supposed to but nice when things actually work the way they are supposed to). I ran into trouble when I tried using the transmitter, however. After much fussing I read in the back of the manual that they might need to be synced together. After following the steps to do so, the transmitter worked perfectly. My next problem was when I was finished playing with it, I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. The light stayed on the receiver, which would drain battery life. Again, after some fussing and researching I finally stumbled upon the instructions within the syncing instructions which stated that you needed to turn on the unit by pressing the set button on the receiver. Had I not needed to synch them in the first place I wouldn't have come across this piece of information. Now I can actually turn it off to so all is well. While the manual is better than nothing, it is lacking so you might need to do some trial and error. Hopefully this information helps someone else out there.
I have not tried it in the field as of yet to see how sensitive the signal is. I do like the features of being able to take a photo instantly and also continuous shooting. I don't know how helpful the two second delay option will be but time will tell.
